New Project for Moms

Yesterday, I tweeted and posted on facebook, that we were looking for Toronto moms of all ages to be a part of a new project. I have been overwhelmed by all the replies and request for more info, and so I thought I would explain a bit more here and ask for your feedback.

First of all, the project is a video! All about what advice you would go back and tell your pregnant self before you had kids. You can see some of these advice ideas from a post i wrote here. The images will be of you, no kids (although they are welcome to come and i will happily hang out with them) holding cards with the advice written on the card. I will be bringing the cards, all we need if your beautiful faces. The photos won’t take long, still working on location, but will be in Toronto August 23rd.

Some answers to the questions i’ve had so far:
1. not a lingerie shoot, clothing is appreciated :)
2. Women need to be able to come into Toronto. I will have locations for everyone in a few days, once i have a count of all our beautiful faces.
3. Pregnant moms would be wonderful too, whether it is your first or not.
4. Your turn probably won’t take too long, we will ask you to hold a number of the advice cards so that we have as many images to work with for editing.
5. Starbucks is on me

The video launches Labor Day (yes, i know how soon that is) and will be used on our website and possibly in the media and on other websites for parents.

Seriously, again, thank you for all your interest. You overwhelmed me and i am honoured to have you all involved.

If you would like to be a part of the video, please leave a comment below.  I have also fav’d tweets with interest, saved emails, and have the facebook comments to work from too.  If you have any feedback or suggestions, this is the best place to share them.

Thank you
Alison

  • Emilydimmell
ps... the print ad I did in Jan.....was a bra shoot!!! lol no joke!
  • Emilydimmell
great idea! as I sit here feeding my 3'rd little ,omkey who is 8 months old- there is so much I've learned over the last 4yrs of parenthood, and I am already very involved in the realm of parenting communities, and I've been in print ads for breastfeeding, and most recently I was on City Line with nanny Robina! Let me know if you still need people, I'm a short drive out of the city...and I love Starbucks. :-)
  • Alison Kramer
Awesome! We do need people, that's why I'm asking :) I will have times in a few days, would love to have you involved.
  • Kathleen (@DroolMama)
Hey Alison - I loved that post when I had first read it and I would love to participate. What an amazing project idea!!! And this better not be a bait and switch bra shoot... in which case you'll need a lot more than starbucks to keep me in the room :)
  • Alison Kramer
Lol! Bait and switch! I promise clothing must be worn :)
  • Janice
I'm interested! Anything to help new moms or moms-to-be. Wish I knew the things I know now (14 weeks pregnant with my 3rd!).
My advice is what I was told when I was pregnant with my 1st: You're a mom now, YOU make the rules! - That empowered me when I needed it most.
As well, I would tell moms each child you have is like sending unprotecting nerves out into the world everyday. You'll feel their joy as if it was your own and you'll feel their pain as true as if it's happened to you. The most difficult part is learning that's it ok to let them feel both even if it tears you apart!
  • Alison Kramer
Such beautiful and true advice. Thank you for sharing and for being a part of the video. I will be connecting with everyone interested in a few days with specific times and locations
  • My kids are young adults now but once a mom; always a mom! I would love to help out if you can use me.
Advice I would go back and tell myself...
"Being a Mom is a life-long job and commitment. Your job description 'changes' with the passing years so be adaptable and open to change."
"There is no such thing as 'perfectionism' when being a Mom, just do your best!"
Great idea; I love when women help other women!

  • MC InToronto
Hi Alison, even though I hate my photographic image.. I am interested. Why, because I knew as a mom certain things were up at certain times. Of course, certain/most people thoought I was being either neurotic, overprotective, overboard or all three. In the end, I have been medically redeemed, so to speak, on each occasion. You do have to go with mother's instinct. And in fact, hindsight being 20/20, there are places the medical and/or ECE community could have helped, but politically, I think they were not able to. I am all for early diagnosis and the ECE community could help, it it were not such a political/parental minefield for them.
  • Alison Kramer
Thank you so much for your comment and for wanting to help. I think the video is going to be beautiful and inspirational to a lot of new moms and moms to be
  • sarachi
I am in ! (or am I ?) Let me know if you need help and I'd like to think I have beautiful face :)
  • Alison Kramer
    Awesome :)
All moms are beautiful! I will be in touch in a few days with times
  • Sounds like a great project! With #2 on the way I can't wait to see the results since there is so much I wish I'd heard the first time around. That being said, some of us just need to go through an experience to fully comprehend any advice people shared pre-little ones anyway.
  • Alison Kramer
I totally agree, I was given tons of advice and went my own way. But I do think the reflection of what we would go back and tell ourselves is a very cool exercise, both personally and hopefully for others to see. It is rarely advice about the details, or all the little things we stress over, usually it is more about slowing down and loving ourselves. A beautiful message.
  • Would be happy to help out! Got a ton of advice before Addison was born. Listened to it intently, and even took notes. Turns out each kid is so different, what works for one sends the other into a tailspin. Wish I'd listened less and trusted myself more.
  • Alison Kramer
Thank you for wanting to be a part of the video and for this "Wish I'd listened less and trusted myself more." Perfect advice.
  • That sounds sooo sweet! You're a delight!
  • Alison Kramer
:) thank you kindly. I think it will be a great video and resource for moms to be
  • I would be willing to help out as well! (If I can get to the location by TTC or in York Region would be okay too)
  • Alison Kramer
Awesome :) I will have location details soon. Just need to face count first
  • JackiYo
What's the date/time again for the gig?
  • Alison Kramer
thanks Jackie, forgot the date...oy. August 23rd. Still working on times, depends on how many moms
  • JackiYo
Sounds like a fun time. I'd love to help out, too :)
  • JackiYo
My best advice to any mom - new or not - is to go with your gut, your intuition, whatever you want to call it. Advice from friends and family - even strangers - may be a lot louder, but if you get quiet, you can hear your own voice telling you what is right for you and your beautiful family. That true Mama's intuition will never steer you wrong. Trust it. Trust yourself.
  • You know I'd do anything for you.
  • Alison Kramer
Don't make me change it to a bra shoot and test that ;)
Love to have you be a part of it
    Thank you
  • WonderMoms
I am willing and able to help you, kinda glad it is not a bra shoot. As well I am not the same post kids. I have four and have a lot of advice for myself I would say before I had my gaggle of children.
  • Alison Kramer
    Thank you so much :)
